/College News News Articles/ - WASHINGTON, DC, September 25, 2007 - Darryl K. Harrison, director of Georgetown University's Department of Public Safety, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of public safety.

Harrison has more than 35 years of experience in law enforcement, management and providing public safety. Georgetown University's Department of Public Safety is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment on Georgetown University's main campus, off-campus properties and medical center campus.

Harrison attributes his success to his quiet drive and determination, as well as an inner motivation to do the best job he can. He became involved in the public safety field by chance. After a recruiter encouraged him to be a police officer, he pursued a position in law enforcement and found that he enjoyed it and felt he could really make a difference. The highlight of his career was coordinating security for Nelson Mandela after his release from prison.

Harrison received his bachelor of arts degree from American University. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators and The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.
